Sometimes when Thumper is weary of playing, and he has that dreamy, far away look, we go out on the back porch. He stares thoughtfully at the wind blowing through the trees and the green beginning to peek through the brown in the garden, and he contemplates the cyclical nature of time. Then he softly blows a raspberry to communicate his disdain for this material world, and we go back inside for a nap.
It is day 7 of cold #1. The conjunctivitis is gone, though we'll probably continue through a couple more days of eye drops, just because I enjoy tormenting him. This is also why I wipe his nose so often. His snot production is still at full capacity; he wakes up with a dried, crusty coating all over his face and hands. A good sneeze can produce six-inch streamers, and it's always good for a hearty, heartfelt "Eeeeewwwwwwww!" from his nine-year-old cousin. His cough, too, is not relenting, though miraculously, he seems to sleep through the many wracking fits he has at night.
Aside from the humidifier, does anyone have any suggestions for relieving the upper respiratory infection symptoms of an unmedicatable infant?

Sadly, I do not. They changed all the meds rules since mine were that young - I may be mistaken, but I swear I could give them infant cold medicine once they were 6 months old back then. Or maybe it just all runs together in the haze of sleep deprivation.
At any rate, now I hear you're not supposed to give them anything before 2 or 3 years old or something ridiculous like that.
Sheesh.
If he sleeps on his back, try propping up the crib mattress with a towel underneath it, so that the mattress is at an angle. That will help him from waking up so much from the congestion (it's pediatrician-approved).
fobinWe used PEDIACARE INFANT DECONGESTANT DROPS on the recommendation of our family doctor when our kids were babies, and it seemed to help with stuffy noses and coughs. Neither of our babies had any side effects.
I do not know what the current thinking is on this med; we always used the included dropper and followed the dosage on the bottle.
Here is the link I found:

Hope that helps.
I'm sorry I don't either. I was going to suggest the mattress thing, but I see, as usual Mrs. Robinson got here first - curse you, Mrs. R!!!
When JH was two, we used the Vick's Vapor patch. They might have something you can use in his bath that might just clear him up a little before bed. Poor little snotty Thumper. Give him a raspberry on the neck from Anniemcq.
